The Bible says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the Glory of God”-Romans 3:23. God is holy, man is sinful, and it is our sin that separates us from God. The Old Testament says, “Surely I was sinful from birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me.”-Psalm 51:5. God created us to have relationship with Him, but that relationship was broken when sin entered the world through Adam and Eve.
God chose the Jewish people and gave them laws so they could reflect His glory into the world, but the Jewish people were disobedient. The Torah (Book of Laws) says, “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for one's life.”-Leviticus 17:11. When the Jewish people were about to leave Egypt, God said, “The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you.”-Exodus 12:13.
God sent prophet after prophet to tell the Jewish people to repent and live Godly lives. Jeremiah 31:31 says there will be a new covenant. Micah 5:2 says Messiah would be born in Bethlehem. Daniel 9 says Messiah would come and be killed before the destruction of the second Temple (which has already happened). Isaiah said the Son would be called God (Isaiah 9:6-7) and this Messiah would shed his blood for the Sins of the world and rise from the dead (Isaiah 53).
Even the Talmud (Rabbinic Writings) talks about the Scarlet thread that was hung in the Temple Courts when the High Priest of Israel would go into the Holy of Holies on Yom Kippur to atone for the sins of the Jewish people? The Scarlet thread would turn white after the High Priest made atonement. Guess what year that Scarlet thread stopped turning white signifying the High Priest’s sacrifices were no longer acceptable to God? It was the same year Jesus was crucified. Jesus has become the blood sacrifice and the only acceptable atonement for sin before God!
Has your sin been atoned for? Is your name written in God's "Book of Life"?
A Sinner’s Prayer: God, I know I have sinned against you. I want to turn from my sin, and I believe you provided Jesus as atonement for my sin. With this prayer, I receive Jesus as my Savior and my Lord. Thank you God for forgiving my sin and for sealing my name in your book of life forever! Amen.
